matt is finally home from chicago and in my house at this very moment. but he's on the phone so i'm wasting time on the internet. it's cool matt, i've done the same to you. we were and will be drinking wine and watching wristcutters: a love story. i want to see it again before i have to take it back. or maybe i'll keep it forever as payback because it's out on dave's blockbuster card. just kidding, dave.
yesterday i got out of work way early at 7 and went to see no service project at cafe metropolis. they are the only band from high school to have lasted this long. all the other ones broke up a million times. they got really good.
then i went to this bar called anthracite with ivy and caitlin and wayne and chris, my favorite chef, who is back for a week and a half to keep our restaurant in line while the other chef visits home. poor guy has been living in a hotel here for four months.
today i went on a way long bike ride and the weather was gorgeous although cold. i watched Armageddon on tv and cried basically the whole time because, well, i am a crybaby i guess. not really, just lately. i found my digital camera today. it's a shame i haven't had it because i've done a lot of fun stuff, like carving pumpkins and drinking whiskey cider with kristin and rob and phil. then we watched hook, again. and also it would have been nice to have on the bike ride and today at the greek dinnerdance, which is something i have gone to probably very close to every year for my entire life excepting the past four years while i was in college. i never even thought about it much until this time. it is a fundraiser for the greek church we "belong" to. it's a fancy dinner with all the greek people who have known me since i was a baby and so they say things like, "you got so big!!!" in shrill greek lady voices. there are also a lot of people there with my name, which is not something that happens to me outside of greek functions. there is a greek dj (who would have thought such a thing exists in nepa) who plays, duh, greek music and greek dancing ensues. which is probably pretty funny to someone who has never seen it. let's have a youtube search. here we go. this dance is called sirtaki. way fun, as you can see. i honestly do love that song and dance. there's also a really good one where the men dance around like chickens to impress the ladies. i wish my father cared more about being in touch with his heritage. i also which his parents had lived long enough for me to know them better. i would probably speak greek and have dual citizenship, were that the case. i am happy we attend such events as this though. i have some pictures on alex's camera that maybe someday you will see.
here's a slow video of it from the movie zorba the greek, for which this particular song was written, in case you want to learn it yourself.
