Brooklyn we go hard

I went to New York City this past weekend. I took a bolt bus and my ticket there was $12 and my ticket back was $1. I left on Saturday and read our new book club book on the way there. We're reading Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close and I really like it so far. I took a J train to Bushwick and met up with Ian and sweated at a show and drank a 24oz can of a beer with a lion or dragon or something on it. Ian drove me to Shervin's where we walked to get falafel and video-chatted with Tommy and basically had a slumber party. His apartment was air-conditioned and I slept for a really long time into Sunday. We got Mexican food and frozen yogurt and then I walked to meet up with my friend Mike and his friends, some more Mountaintop kids. We took a train to the Girl Talk show where somehow Mike had a connection to get us VIP passes. This meant free (good) beer and wine, free Converse sneakers and Burt's Bees products for some of us and free food. Ashley Olsen was there and I took a picture of her with my cell phone. Girl Talk is always fun to see, though not entirely different from just listening to him. You're just dancing with more people than you would be in your dorm room, that's the only difference. We skipped the afterparty because there was a line and went to Asher's to hang out/drink more/have a dance party. I kept being really sleepy and had to go get a coffee at ten o'clock at night. Incidentally, it was the best coffee I have ever had, which actually just means the first coffee I have ever actually enjoyed that wasn't flavored. I don't know if this is because this particular Bushwick deli had delicious coffee or because I didn't turn down smoking since I had nothing better to do. That's probably why I was so damn tired in the first place, anyway. Mike and I walked the wrong way for a long time so we got nachos for sustenence. We eventually found where we were going to sleep after I sat down on Shervin's steps, which we happened to come across, and accessed his wireless internet, which I had gotten the password for the previous night. We made pancakes on Monday morning and I made my way back to SoHo to catch my return bus, the dollar trip. I read and slept and briefly utilized the wifi since I had been lugging my computer around all weekend. On the train ride home from 30th Street, four young boys, probably around 12 years old, asked me if I have a twin.

Last night was pleasant; I ate pho with Vincent and Tony and did some grocery shopping. I also tried out this trick I learned to rent free movies from those red boxes in grocery stores. The trick is just that there are passwords. I think the passwords change from time to time but you can find them on the internet. The passwords I know are DVDONME (which worked) and BREAKROOM (which I haven't tried). The problem with this is that those red boxes have a shitty selection and only cost a dollar to begin with. I got a movie called The Cake Eaters cause that pretty girl from Into The Wild is in it but she's not as pretty in this movie and the plot really just sucks pretty bad. The girl's name in it, though, is Georgia. I wouldn't have watched the whole thing if I hadn't also been talking to Ivy.

Highlights of the weekend: seeing Ian, seeing Shervin, and, to a lesser extent and in a very superficial sense, seeing Ashley Olsen. I also sometimes enjoy travelling by public transportation, so I will count the bus trip there as a highlight because I was reading this really good book.

Today I took September 11th off of work to go to All Tomorrow's Parties with Eric and for free. Psyched.
